Part I. Story & Character Analysis of the film

A. Write a Story analysis. What is the story about (do not give a plot summary): What are the major themes? Is there a moral? What about the story is inspiring? Why is it relevant today? What is the central dramatic question? Narrative 700 - 1000 words (solos 400)

B. Write a character analysis: Who is your lead character? What are their personality traits? What do they "want" in the film: their goals, their desires. What are the important/iconic elements of the character? 400-600 words. (solo 300) (Look at the character analysis of Mickey/Goofy and Donald.

Part II: The Preshow

A.Design the queue area. Identify the location of the attraction (i.e. Pirates is in New Orleans Square). How are you going to build anticipation for the experience? How will you reinforce the attraction and make the queue part of the experience. What is the mood you want to create? Will it be a switchback? Will there be interactive portions? Use video? Provide a 500 -800 word (300 solo) narrative along with supporting sketches/images.

B. Design the costumes for the cast members who get you on (or in) and off (or out) of your attractions. How are their costumes setting the mood and reinforcing the story? Is it time specific? What colors will you use? Will it change with the seasons? Provide a 250 - 350 word (150 solo) narrative along with costume sketches/images for both male and female cast members. (Six images for groups/two for solo)

Part III: The Show (The heart of the attraction)

A.What is the story of your attraction? This is not necessarily the story of the film. How will you maintain the integrity of character?

B.How are you going to tell the story? Is it a "dark ride," a roller coaster or an interactive performance? How will you move the guests thru the attraction? Will you use an omnimover? If so, what will it look like?

C.Identify how you will control the gaze of the audience. What will guest see?

D.How will you incorporate the animation from the film?

E. What is the sound design? What music will you use? Be specific.

F.Any special effects? Be specific.

G.How long is the ride? If necessary - provide a "map" of your attraction.

H.If you are doing a restaurant you must provide a detailed menu and state your reasons why this food is important. You must design the interior (including décor) and exterior of the building. There MUST be an interactive portion to the restaurant that makes it an "event/show/attraction" not just a character meal.

Narrative 1500-2000 words (part A should not exceed 600 words)/Solos 1000 words

Create a storyboard/ 3-D models/dioramas/or digital model of your attraction.

Part IV: The Post Show

A. What will the guests see/do after they leave the attraction? Why? How will you reinforce the experience and entice them back? Provide a 300 word narrative with three images/sketches (solos one image).

B. Design a piece of merchandise guest can purchase. Provide a 350 word narrative along with designs for three pieces of merchandise (solos design one and 150 word narrative).

Your Presentation: Two Options:

1.You may present your attraction on tri-fold science project board. Use one side for The Pre-Show, the middle for the Show, and the final panel for the post-show. This allows the table space in front of the board to be used for 3D representations or more images.

2.You may do a video/keynote/power point presentation. You will need to turn in a working DVD of your presentation.( I prefer do a power point)

For both options:

You will turn in the narrative portions of your projects to your TAs in a binder with each section clearly marked. Please include word count per section.

Make sure all the names (and student id numbers) are on the papers. Typos and poor syntax will result in a lower grade.

You may pull images from other attractions (including non-disney ones) to illustrate your points. Provide sketches, research, etc. The more visual aids (images/sketches) the better. You may use collages of found images from magazines, etc to illustrate your points.
