Homework: Managerial Communications- Communicating Character
Overview
This section allows students to use the Framework for Ethical Decision Making and the character, audience, message (CAM) model.
Task
Using the Framework for Ethical Decision Making, describe coming to a decision on whether to do this activity:
Downloading/streaming copyrighted content - books, music, movies, etc. - through free, unauthorized sources. OR Plagiarizing another person's work, school homework, etc. Provide a two to three sentence answer for each of the five questions in the framework.
Question A. "Is the action legal?"
Question B. "Does the action comply with your company's policies and guidelines?" In this case, it may be personal guidelines. Explain why it does or does not.
Question C. "Who will be affected by your decision and how?" Identify at least two types of stakeholders.
Question D. "Does the action comply with the company values?" In this case, it may be personal values. Explain why it does or does not.
Question E. "How will you feel after the decision is known?"

Using the CAM model, consider how to respond to an employer. Provide at least two or three sentences to answer each section of the CAM model.
Scenario: You received a job offer at the NICE Company and accepted it. You plan to start the job in a week. Two days after you accepted the job, you receive a job offer from THE BEST EVER Company with a better offer. You had interviewed months ago and had heard nothing, so you began applying to other jobs. That's how you received the NICE Company offer. Whose offer are you turning down? - This is based off an example of page 25 in Chapter 1.
