Problem: Project Methodology

I. Research: Online, find 5 book covers you think are well-designed and 5 covers you think could be improved. In Adobe InDesign, create a 8.5" x 11" document containing all 10 of these covers - one cover displayed per page. In addition, include a sentence or two describing each of the 10 selections outlining what aspects of each design you think are successful or could be improved to make the design communicate more effectively.

II. Curate: How will you curate your series of four books? Will there be four titles by a single author? Four titles on a particular topic? Books by Puerto Rican authors? Use your imagination and be creative with your selection of titles. Ideally you will have read AT LEAST ONE of the titles in your series. Create one additional page in your InDesign document with a list of the four books in your series along with images of their current cover art. Write one paragraph explaining why you chose these four titles and what they have in common.

III. Sketch: Starting with ONE title in your series, make 10 thumbnail sketches for a cover (10 individual ideas, not variations on one design theme). Your design can be typography based or use photography or illustration. Any photography or illustrations must be original (i.e., do not find or use artwork from the internet). Your sketches can be small (min. 2"x3") but make sure they are detailed enough to communicate elements like typography (classification, casing, hierarchy), alignment, and type of imagery (if any). Photograph or scan your sketches and include them in your PDF submission. Arrange them in InDesign so the are legible.
