Question: ENG-245 In discussing rhetoric, Lloyd Bitzer defines the rhetorical situation as a situation in which a problem invites a rhetorical response that can influence an audience to act. Bitzer also discussed the constraints that could enable or limit this influence. Some of the constraints that a grant writer must deal with argumentatively specific to a proposal include the funder's values and motivations for giving. Each grant proposal is unique because each funding opportunity is unique; however, the genre of a grant proposal offers the opportunity to use rhetorical strategies persuasively to address the challenges of the parts of the proposal. Think about the strategies you will use for the common sections of a proposal argument. Problem: How will you create "presence" in the problem section to convince your potential funder that the problem requires action? Solution: How will you demonstrate that the steps of your project will indeed solve that problem? Justification: What strategies and argument types will you use to justify your solution? That is, how can you answer the question, "Why should we fund you?" or "So what?" If your project is funded, what will happen as a result?
