Case Study:

Pamela lives in a residential setting with 4 other individuals receiving 24-hour support, she has Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and cerebral palsy, can walk short distances but needs the support of a wheelchair for longer distances and outings as she gets tired and has difficulty walking on uneven pavement due to her unsteady gait.

She has been having difficulty with constipation over the last 2 months, she was having a bowel movement regularly daily but lately has been going every 2 to 3 days and this is causing her to be agitated and not want to eat, she is also spending more time sitting on the toilet trying to have a bowel movement.

She had a visit with her doctor yesterday to discuss this new concern and he ordered Senokot 2 tablets daily at bedtime if no bowel movement on the second day and to be repeated daily until has a good result.

Her other medications are:

• Valproic Acid 5omg/ml- take 17.5ml (875mg) po bid at 0700hrs and 1900hrs.
• Lamotrigine 100mg/tablet- take 1 tab po bid at 0700hrs and 1900hrs.
• Primidone 250mg/tablet- take 1 tab po bid at 0700hrs and 1900hrs.
• Multi-Vitamin- take 1 tab po by mouth qd at 0800hrs.
• Calcium Carbonate 500mg/tablet- take 1 tab po bid at 0800hrs and 1700hrs.
• Vitamin D3 1000iu/tablet- take 1 tab po qd at 1700hrs.
