Assignment: Nursing Informatics
Purpose: This assignment introduces the student to informatics as well as the role of the electronic health record is used to support informatics. It has students consider what key function, application, or tool are most desired in consideration for selecting and implementing an electronic health record (EHR).
Instructions: You are on the search committee that will review multiple EHR vendors and select an EHR for your workplace. While the team is comparing the different vendors and applications (EPIC, Cerner, etc.), the committee will need to considerkey aspects of theEHR's overall usability, function, or applications to make the best decision for the new EHR.
I. In reviewing the possibleEHRs, whatapplications, function(s) and/or tools:

II. When considering the abovefunction, application, or tool stated as most important:
i. Describe its impact on workflow (nursing practice); how will it help or support your workflow (provide examples)?
ii. Describe its impact on other disciplines' practice (provide examples)
III. Discuss how selected function/application/tool will improve overall efficiency and quality within the work environment and provide examples.
IV. Identify the key individuals and/or department instrumental in searching, reviewing, selecting the EHR as well as implementation, and provide support when installed. Provide examples to support your view.
V. Complete a minimum of two cross posts to your peers. Your cross posts should include integration of peers' posts and add to the discussion with possible alternatives/suggestions for improvement, examples from workplace.Ex: note one thing new your peer posted and post new (different from peer) information.
VI. Include a minimum of one scholarly, relevant reference (within five yrs.) in the initial post and for each cross post.
VII. Cross posts are to provide constructive, respective feedback to peer.
