Assignment:
I do believe that colleges in the US can either focus on value vs values. That's the reason I chose to go to trade school and become and LPN before becoming an RN. I didn't want the "fluff". I wanted to get what I needed to know to do the job and that was it. Appiah made the statement, "Here, college is about building your soul as much as your skills" (Appiah, 2015, para 5.). I wasn't interesting in a school that was concerned about building my soul. I have other ways of doing that on my own and don't feel that I should be awarded a pass/fail grade on what my soul feels is moral or not. When it comes to education I tend to be a 'get to the point' kind of person. I think that's partly because I like to stay busy and want to use my time wisely and get things done quickly. So, no I do not believe it is a college's place to teach such things because it is difficult to keep one's opinions out of it. Unless you are teaching ethics related to health care that are needed to do the job I think people have the responsibility and right to do that learning on their own, without being graded on it and without the big price tag. Getting information and forming opinions is not hard to come by these days.
