Read through the case study questions for your homework. These questions are located below in this document.

Students will answer each of the questions outlined for each case study. Responses to each question should be detailed and supported with scholarly works. There should be at least two scholarly works found by the student for each case study homework that are not the textbook or weekly readings. Additional resources such as the course textbook or other course materials can be used/cited, but are in addition to the two scholarly sources found by the student. Note: You should be supporting each of your answers to each question with a source whether it is one you found or the textbook and additional readings.

Part I

Complete case study 1, The Sanchez Family, and submit by Sunday at midnight. The case study is worth 100 points. Case studies can be found on the Routledge book site.

A. Mrs. Sanchez's own pregnancies all occurred within the context of her low income, frequent separation from her spouse, and disconnection from important supports and resources. How might this environment have affected her pregnancy and birth experiences, as well as the early development of her children? Looking at Mrs. Sanchez through a strengths perspective, how do you frame her journey to motherhood?

B. Considering Emilia specifically, how do you see the intersection of race and class as affecting her experience with an unplanned pregnancy?

C. What information in this chapter might be useful to Emilia as she considers her options for the pregnancy? How might you assess Emilia's current need for and interest in information about her health, her pregnancy, and potential avenues?

D. What types of interventions might you develop for Emilia? How could your work with other members of the family make a difference for Emilia at this point?

E. What changes to policies could affect Emilia's experiences and potential outcomes in pregnancy?

F. What ethical issues might you face in working with the family, specifically during Emilia's pregnancy? How would you propose to navigate those dilemmas?

K. Which of the issues discussed might be of concern for the Sanchez family? Describe, in some detail, how individual members might be affected by these issues and how they might impact the family as a system.

L. How might these issues be affected by cultural factors? Offer a thorough exploration of the cultural context in which the family lives and how you, as social worker, would take into consideration this context as you pinpoint issues.

M. Based on problems that you identify for this family and your ideas about how to work with these problems and the family, what ethical dilemmas, if any, could potentially emerge for this family?

N. What theories might you want to use to guide your interventions and why?

O. Briefly describe what type of interventions you would recommend for this family based on your assessment of problems. Justify your plans.
