Imagine that you are a registered nurse living and working at a community clinic in a rural area of a low or middle-income country like the ones depicted in the additional resources this week. Several of the residents have recently come down with severe diarrheal illness and dehydration. One young child, a boy of 3 years, died from dehydration as a result of diarrhea. The residents in your village all have either pit latrines or defecate in the open. The main local water source is a stream that you believe has now been contaminated by human waste, causing the illness and one death.

How will address the public health problem of inadequate WASH facilities in your village? Remember that financial resources are scarce so you cannot simply 'build a water treatment plant' or a 'build pit latrines for each household' as the whole region struggles to meet daily needs. Please consider both direct and indirect care: education, infrastructure, collaborations, programs, etc., not just direct care for ill persons.
