Assignment
In your case study assignment, I would like you to summarize/analyze a specific individual or event involving homicide. For example, you might choose to do your case study on a serial killer like Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy or Robert Pickton. Alternatively, you might choose to write about a specific event like the Jonestown massacre or the Las Vegas shooting (note: if you choose a specific event, your case study needs to also discuss the individual(s) responsible)
Question A. A summary of your homicidal individual/event that contains 3-4 citations (newspaper and magazines are acceptable). Your summary should inform the reader about the key details about the individual or case in which you are profiling.
Question B. A connection to the theoretical material discussed in our class. Using Lesson 3's course content and Chapter 3 - Explaining the Will to Kill of our textbook as a guide, discuss two different theoretical perspectives that help explain why your individual committed homicide or why your homicidal event took place. This section of your case study should focus on explaining why your killer committed homicide. In this section you must make a clear connection to our class textbook and include citations.
Question C. Your case study should discuss what resulted from the actions of the individual/event you have profiled. For example, was the individual(s) responsible for the homicide(s) sentenced to prison? If so, what sentence did they receive? How were the victim's families impacted? Did the actions of the murderer(s) you discussed impact changes to criminal justice or social policy?
Question D. Finally, you need to discuss how your homicidal event(s) could been prevented. What were the warning signs that law enforcement (or others) missed that might have prevented the homicide(s)?
