Question: Your initial post should be about 200 words. Quantity doesn't necessarily indicate quality, but it is more likely that your response will include relevant examples and thoughtful reflection when it is longer.
Practice writing as a professional.
Don't use full names - often initials for students or T for teacher
Even when writing about negative experiences or events, pay attention to HOW you are writing about them. Are you name-calling? Blaming?
Don't just state your feelings - but explore WHY you feel a particular way, or how you might handle a situation differently in the future.
Discussion Board Prompt #3 - Managing Student Behavior
Think back on how teachers in your K-12 experiences managed student behaviors. You probably had a wide variety of experiences with how teachers managed student behavior - some worked well, and others didn't work well and may have even made student behavior worse or alienated students.
Reflect on some of the best experiences you've had with teachers who seemed to have been able to develop a classroom environment that encouraged learning through on-task behavior, respectful interactions between students and teachers, and created a positive climate. Consider the following:
How did your teachers communicate their expectations of student behavior in their classrooms? Did they explicitly teach/explain expectations? Develop expectations together? Give specific examples.
What sort of systems did they have in place to monitor and manage student behavior?
What external/internal rewards or punishments were used to encourage appropriate behavior?
When students misbehaved or got off-task, how did the teachers react? What did they do and say?
How were students involved in self-monitoring the standards of behavior and classroom expectations?
What other ideas do you have for addressing student behavior to increase engagement and time on task?
