Answer the following questions about your research:
State the topic of your research,
- List three to five (3-5) subtopics you will include,
- Formulate a research question that will help focus your research, and
- State the overall purpose for researching your chosen topic.
For the final part of the research plan, locate a minimum of three to five (3-5) sources of information. Complete the following for each source.
Part 1 - Information about the source:
Can be completed in point form or organized in a graphic organizer

- Publication date,
- Title of article OR title of book OR title of a web page,
- ONE of the following:
- If a website, the name of the website
- If a book, the name of the publisher and location of publication.
- If a periodical, the name of the periodical, volume number, page number.
- If a website: include the URL to the home page.
- If the article was found in a database, include the name of the database.
Part 2 - Assess the suitability of the source
In point form, provide four (4) reasons why the document is an appropriate source to use. Use one or more of the following questions to guide your explanation.
- What are the author's credentials? Does the author have training that provides expertise?
- Is the source a commercial business (.com), organization (.org), or Canadian government (.gov) source?
- Why is this a reliable source? Is this an "advertorial" (advertisement meant to sell you a product)?
- Why is this source valid? What is the expertise of the source? How do you know the information is trustworthy?
- How current is the source? Does currency matter for your topic?
- Why is this a relevant source?
- How will you use this source?
Now that you have collected all of your information, make an outline or a storyboard to explain briefly how you will organize and present your information.
Your outline should include:
- A meaningful title,
- Three to five (3-5) subtopics, and
- Two to three (2-3) points for each subtopic,
make a reference list that includes a minimum of three to five (3-5) resources.
at the end it should include the following:
- A meaningful title,
- Your research question
- Why this is an important topic to understand when living independently,
- Minimum of three (3) subtopics,
- Minimum of ten (10) informative points (2-3 points per subtopic),
- Visuals to support your points,
- Conclusion and Reflection (see below for guiding questions),
Use the following questions to guide your reflection:
- What ways were most effective when initially exploring a topic to research?
- How well did I formulate a research question?
- How well did I use the research question to guide my research in collecting the information?
- How did I make sure that I used reliable, credible sources of information?
- How well did I pull my research together to make a meaningful presentation?
- What conclusions and recommendations can I make to answer the research question and to make suggestions for future research?
