Simulated Workplace Scenario
You are currently working in a retail organisation and appointed as a store manager of a large department store. The department store employed 42 full-time employees, 54 part-time employees and 36 casual employees. Senior management has a deep concern with WHS management efficiency due to high rate of incidents reported in the last 12 months.
According to the organisational Work Health and Safety policies and procedures, you have conducted a workplace inspection and discovered:
WHS Induction Training was not provided to newly employed staff;
Workers have not received training in organisational health and safety policies & procedures for two years;
There is no information and training provided to workers about the organisational risk management program;
Issues raised by workers were generally ignored or not actioned;
There were three (3) hazards identified six months ago that have not been actioned:
Incorrect Manual Handling Procedures, lifting large, heavy and awkward boxes.
Workers did not use the step ladder to load items on the top sales shelf (over shoulder height);
Long-standing hours due to a shortage of staff in peak season;
The workplace risk assessment has not been reviewed and updated for the last 12 months;
Workers are unaware of the consultation process and never had the opportunity to participate in the consultation process;
Management is reluctant to approve health and safety training as they are fearful it will cost too much.
QUESTION:
Refer to the Simulated Workplace Scenario and identified legislative requirements, list at least eight (8) WHS records, that the department store is required to maintain and be made accessible to its staff members.
How I can explain step to step how we would use WHS information and date to data to review and evaluate the department store's WHS management efficiency.
