Question: There are many aspects of workplace rules and regulations that people are required to follow at the workplace, but when it comes to process of employee discipline, it is not always a one size fits all approach as there are many shades of gray is applicable, and it is not always a matter of black-and-white. Disciplinary measures not only have direct relation to employee performance and turnover, but legal implications as well.
There are two approaches to discipline (positive, negative)
After reading these approaches, please discuss your views on the following:
- What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of each approach?
- Which approach do you think is applicable in what types of jobs or performance evaluations?
- How viable is the traditional four-stage disciplinary process?
- What type of situations would be most suitable for this process?
- What types of mistakes might be present in the process of administering disciplinary process and what can be done to avoid them?
