Task Description

You are to draw up a supplied circuit in Altium Designer. The objective of this task is to learn how to use Altium Designer to reproduce an existing design. The circuit you need to draw is provided in PDF format on LearnJCU. You will need to produce both the schematic and PCB layout. We have already manufactured a board for this design, and you will also need to solder the components onto the ready-
made board to produce a working product.

The circuit design is a development board which extends the capabilities of the Raspberry Pi Pico, providing:
1. Debugging (through a second Pico)
2. Reset switch
3. 3 tactile switches
4. Light sensor
5. Three-colour light-emitting diode.

Once complete, you will be using this development board in your practical labs during the course.
The assignment also requires you to write software to demonstrate the board, with functionality as follows:
a) Red LED is on when button 1 is pushed; off otherwise.
b) Green LED is on when button 2 is pushed; off otherwise.
c) Blue LED is on when button 3 is pushed; off otherwise.
(All 3 buttons should work at the same time. So, for example, if you press SW1 and SW2, you should see the LED as yellow.)
Your hardware is to be a 60mm x 85mm rectangular circuit board. The photograph shows the finished product, as fabricated by a 3rd party PCB manufacturer, and completed using the designated components.

Learning Outcomes

This is a formative assignment designed to teach you how to use the Altium software to prepare printed circuit boards, and to give you experience with circuit board manufacturing and prototyping. The criteria that are listed below will be applied strictly in order to teach "best practices" for future circuit board designs that you produce for the rest of your degree.

A note about submitting Altium projects
When you submit your project, do not include redundant files; just include the project file (*.PrjPcb), the schema file(s) (*.SchDoc), the PCB file(s) (*.PcbDoc) and the Bill of materials file (*.BOM), as listed in the table below.
i) Ensure that all your project files are saved;
ii) Use Windows Explorer to create a new zip file; and
iii) Copy the relevant files into the zip folder.
iv) Submit the zip file.
