Question: Based on my lack of knowledge of respirable silica dust I think the gap in educating the American workforce lies in inadequate training. I think employers should have prominently posted signage for respirable silica dust. Also, I think that training should be required just like it is for other general hazards like slips, trips, and falls. Since so many workers are exposed to this hazard and it can take so long to develop into a health problem it need to be addressed. I personally know that I have not seen or heard about this issue in any of my training at any of my places of employment current or previous. I think we require a combination of OSHA being more stringent and employers being more diligent with the enforcement of exposure limits. OSHA has limited resources when it comes to inspections and since this is such widespread issue, they cannot tackle it without the help of employers. Employers need to take this serious and make sure they are providing training and PPE for their workers to reduce exposure to safe limits. How to reply to this statment?
