Technical writing, also known as "how-to" or process writing, is often considered the hardest and most exacting form of written communication. Still, we do it every day and often give the effort little thought.

Occasionally, things go wrong: the cookie resembles a hockey puck; the traveler reaches the wrong destination; the easy-as-pie dress pattern becomes wasted material and thread; or a lab test yields physically impossible results. Thus, your task is to tell your classmates how to do something that you find to be easy.

Remember, they may be starting from a point of no knowledge about your subject. They need to know why to do it, supplies and instruments required, necessary definitions, orderly steps, expected results, and ways to troubleshoot when things do not turn out as expected.
