Assignment - Process Essay or Classification/Division Essay Choose ONE There are two types of process essays. First there is the traditional ‘how to' essay which essentially outlines the specific directions for a process. It is similar to writing the directions to a recipe - except it should be in paragraph format. The second type of process paper is a general analysis of that process. For this paper you will describe the process but not in specific steps. These processes are traditionally a little more complicated and not simple tasks. Imagine topics like, how to make a million dollars or how to have a perfect marriage. While there may be ‘tips' it won't be a step-by-step guide.
You can approach the next essay with either of the two philosophies. Either specific steps or general rules. Here are your topic choices:
1. How to raise the perfect pup.
2. How to plan a vacation
3. How to prepare the perfect
4. How to write an essay
5. A topic of your choice pre-approved by the instructor
When a topic is classified and divided it is actually being analyzed for varying characteristics. Each subtopic is then explained and detailed to indicate to the reader the varying behaviors or traits that make it unique from the general group.
You are asked to choose one of the topics below and then break it down into sub-topics. Each sub-topic should be detailed and described fully. Your introduction and conclusion will allow you to make generalizations and connections between subject matter.
** This essay should allow you to use similar skills that had been previously used in your description essay as well as your illustrative essay.
