Assignment: Elementary Methods
As an elementary classroom teacher, planning lessons involves multiple steps when you are using a cross-curriculum development approach to integrate related concepts from multiple subject areas. This requires you to take the time to find the connections between subject areas and think critically about how to incorporate these concepts into each lesson. In this assessment, you create 2 lesson plans that integrate health and physical education concepts.
Scenario
As part of your district's newly approved curriculum supporting students' health and physical literacy, your administrator has requested each teacher to submit 2 cross-curriculum lesson plans that integrate health and physical education concepts with other content areas' classroom instruction.
Preparation
Do the following to prepare for this assessment:
1) Choose a grade level (K-5th) to be the basis of your lesson plans.
2) Choose a health standard from Appendix A, "National Health Education Standards" of Health and Physical Education for Elementary Classroom Teachers.
