Construction Information (Drawing, Detailing, Specification)

P1 Explain the use of construction information in the context of a project.

• What is construction information?
• What is drawings? What types of drawing to be included in the project, such as site plan, floor plans, elevations, sections & details etc.
• What is specification?
• What is detailing?
• What is Bill of Quantity?
• What kind of information to be provided for the context of a project
• What are their functions, objectives and use of Construction information in different stages of the construction project.
e.g. Production of engineering design documents-> Plan approval by Government Department -> bid document of tender/quotation for bidding to solicit a contractor -> construction documents as technical requirements to construct a project

• To provide clear details and reasons of use the construction information; and provide examples of the uses in the project.
P2 Describe the different types of construction information and their uses. 1. Type of drawings and detailing in different stages:
i) construction drawings
ii) detailing drawings
iii) schedule e.g. window schedule, glass types, toilet accessories, finish products iv)shop drawings
How to use and roles of the above, and provide example?

2. Type of specification:
i) Administration requirement
ii) product requirements
iii) installation requirements
How to uses and roles of the above, and provide example to illustrate?
e.g. it is a contract documents specify the required level of quality of the product.

3. What is Bill of Quantity/Schedule of Rates, their uses and roles in different stage of project and different contract, such as lump sum contract, lump sum with remeasurement, design and build contract?
The benefit and reasons of using BQ/SOR.

P3 Develop a set of general arrangement drawings, selected details and door/window schedules. Develop a good set of general arrangement drawings in practice of construction industry such as
• Cover sheet
• plan including site plan, floor plans, roof plan
• Elevations
• Section
• Details, such as slab, beam, column, door and windows
• Door/ window schedules

P4 Produce an
outline bill of quantities. • Detailed explain the description for items of bill of quantities
• Discuss what is take- off
• The common standard method of measurement for civil works, Builder works, MEP works in Hong Kong
• Discuss what is the standard method of measurement; the measurement rules and coverings rules in Standard Method of Measurement
• Produce outline bill of quantities including Builder works, MEP works, and etc. based on drawings and specification provided.

P5 Relate a set of construction drawings to a specification. • Relationship of the construction drawings and specification, how they interrelate.• demonstrate how the construction drawings by referring to the specifications in terms of the materials and construction standards etc.• For example, demonstrate how the construction drawings for brick walls floor slab, windows or door construction or installation by referring to the specifications in terms of the materials and construction standards etc. To provide which standard specification refer to, e. g. General Specification for Building 2017 Edition and General Specification for Civil Engineering Works, 2020 Edition.• demonstrate an example and show how to relate their drawings to the specifications.P6 Evaluate construction drawings and details to identify ‘clashes'. • Explain what is hard clash and soft clash• Discuss the errors, clashes, mistakes between construction drawings and details, such as layout plan, section plan, door schedule, and window schedule.• How to detect and avoid of clash? What is practices or method for clash detection or avoidance? e.g. BIM.• Review drawings and provide red-lined
mark up on drawings and specification to show the clashes and mistakes.

P7 Assess the types In different stages of the construction project, the types of information produced by below participants:-
• Architect
• QS
• Consultant : landscape, structure, geotechnical, MEP
• Specialist : movement joints, bearing
• Project manager
• Main Contractor & Sub- contractor
• Contractor in design and built
• For example, evaluate the information exchange to be prepared/submitted by participants in different works stages of RIBA Plan of Works.
of information
produced by
different
participants in a
construction
Project

P8 Examine the • Functions of three main bodies: 1. Drawings
2. Specification
3. Bill of Quantity
in term of different procurement methods( lump sum with/ without quantities, design and build, management procurement) and their relationship on preparing the information.
• Function of each body in each stage of work: tender, construction if discrepancies found in term of claim, variation, and etc.
• if discrepancies found between the bodies, which bodies precede the others in different circumstances.
relationship
between different
bodies of
information and
how they
work in
conjunction.

M1 Compare different types of construction information to identify their suitability in specific contexts. Compare different types of construction information to identify their suitability in specific contexts.
• Layout
• Plan, Section
• Window schedule, door schedule, movement joint schedule, lourve schedule
• General Specification, Particular Specification
Explain/ demonstrate how and why the construction information to be used in each stages of works, e.g. RIBA plan of works
shall be used to explain them in details.

M2 Compose a schedule of works. • Explain what is schedule of works and it' s use
• Explain the difference from bills of quantities
• Prepare schedule of works involved in a project, such as building works, civil works and MEP works.
• e. g. construction of paving, ramp, planter, landscaping in external works.

M3 Critique a body of construction information, identifying errors and discrepancies. • Explain what are errors and discrepancies.
• How to identify errors and discrepancies such as tender query, query sheet and etc. How to deal with errors and discrepancies found in different stage of works.
• What takes precedence in case there is discrepancies in the body of construction information. e. g. dimension of the door in drawing and specification is different
• Way to deal with errors & discrepancies in different stages of in the construction project. e, g, query sheet

M4 Compare the roles of CAD and BIM in the collaborative production of construction information. • Function of CAD & BIM In term of
i) capture reality
ii) improve collaboration
iii) simulate and visualize
iv) resolve conflict & clashes
v) drive into details
vi) sequence your steps
vii) understanding site constraints & site logistic
• Their advantage and disadvantage using

CAD & BIM
• Explain how the information using BIM during its design, construction and during the building or assets life cycle.
• Way of BIM to facilitate project management, better construction process control, cross- disciplinary collaboration, communication with external stakeholders, decision support and risk management.
• For example, BIM = 3 D graphical model
+ information( time, cost, facility management).
• Example of BIM software, such as Revit

D1 Justify the use of specific types of construction information in support of a given project. Justify different types of construction information in support of project running in success, such as
• Layout
• Plan, Section
• door schedule, movement joint schedule, lourve schedule, window schedule
• General Specification, Particular Specification
• Bill of Quantities
Provide example to illustrate the information supporting the project to be completed.

D2 Propose corrections to construction drawings and specifications using industry standard forms of
notation. • Correct the clashes and errors found in drawings and specification; and provide red l ine mark- up for correction.

The school has an intranet that can find out whether there are plagiarised homework, so you can't plagiarise directly online. You should express it with your own sentences. VeriGuide matches various formats of submitted files within the submission, with past submissions, internet resources and other provided databases. Originality reports will be generated to help teachers and students to review. The format should follow the homework, and the font should follow the requirements of the school.. Each question needs three pages of paper, which is the school's rule.
