Trying to teach a child how to handle the class guinea pig safety. Describe three ways you could use instruction and modeling. Would you use the same strategies with a 3-year-old as you would with a 5-year-old? Explain your answer.

Part Two

Have a class of 3-5-year-old children. In your classroom is a pet guinea pig, as mentioned above. Trying to use the following practices to make the guinea pig experience educational, successful, and enjoyable. Practice terms, such as personal message, positive rules, reasonable rules, reinforcement, authoritative style, empathy, direct instruction, etc.

  1. Ask children to help make classroom rules.
  2. Intervene when safety, property, or rights are in jeopardy.
  3. Implement rules that are definable and reasonable
  4. Reflect (acknowledge) children's perspectives in rule-setting situations.
  5. Describe their reactions to children's behaviour.
  6. Give reasons for rules (focused on safety, property, or rights).
  7. Redirect children's mistaken behaviour by telling children what to do as well as what not to do.
  8. Revise or discard unreasonable rules.
