I currently work in a Psychiatric emergency room and lately patient and staff safety has been at the forefront. Using qualitative data employees have been interviewed and research has been done on how to ensure patient and employee safety. Having hospital police and psychiatric patient safety officers wand patients multiple times before entering the locked unit has help to ensure no weapons or anything that could potentially cause harm is permitted into the waiting area has helped with safety concerns.
