Assessment Brief
Schloss Adler Plc are one of Europe's leading producers of children's toys and games and to expand their operations further, have recently completed the purchase of your organisation based in the UK. As part of their initial review of UK operations they have noticed that sales are reducing in the business whilst demand within the overall market is increasing. As a result, they have instigated an in-depth review of the sales operations where you have recently been promoted to the role of Team Manager. As part of this new role, the Sales Director has asked you to write a report that provides detailed insight as to how all sales teams can improve their performance after consistently missing targets for a sustained period.
Whilst it is acknowledged that the Sales department operates within an extremely competitive environment, the new owners feel that the overall culture of the business can be improved. As such, the Company Directors may look at developing a revised approach and strategy based upon the points contained within your report.
The Directors are particularly keen to see your ideas based upon the concept of motivation. Whilst Maslow's model has been discussed, they would like you to provide more specific ideas based upon models that are focussed on motivation within the workplace.
The following sections should be considered as essential content and is provided as a guide for structure of your report:
1. An introduction setting out the content and direction of your report. (100 words)
2. Compare and contrast Tuckman's Team development model with Charrier's 'Cog's Ladder' theory on Team development. Highlight the key similarities and differences between the models. (400 words)
3. Compare and contrast Belbin's Team Roles theory with the Margerison-McCann Team Performance Index (sometimes known as the 'Work Wheel' model). As with section 2, you should highlight the key similarities and differences between each of these models. (400 words)
4. An explanation of the impact of Motivation and how this supports the successful development of Team Performance. You must make use of academic theories / models that have been studied in the module to support your discussion (Maslow's theory is not to be used). You should also provide relevant examples of effective team working in operation to support your explanation of key points. (900 words)
5. A suitable conclusion that clearly summarises the key points made during the report with recommendations for action to the Directors of the Company. (200 words)
6. The report must be appropriately referenced using the published University of Bolton Harvard Referencing system.
