Question: It is interesting how the role of a female changes with each conflict, battle, war and advancement. The civil war loosened traditional restraints on the everyday activities performed by women. For some women the absence of their husbands forced them to run their businesses. Majority of the women during the civil war were nurses. Due to the circumstance's women were able to explore roles that they would not have been able to otherwise. They were willing to serve as untrained nurses and health velated volunteers. Although they weren't treated nicely, they felt like it was worth it. It was interesting to read that it was a woman who founded the American Red Cross. Also, how these women would work together to feed and care for the enslaved. Because of the civil war women roles were transformed, they were able to become nurses, business managers and executive of new organizations.
