People, Culture and Contemporary Leadership
Assessment - Reflective Practice and Lifelong Learning
Your Task
Part A: The objective of the in-class group activity is for students to engage in a collaborative exploration of people, culture and contemporary leadership to create insightful discussions and reflections of self and growth in a reflective journal.
Part B: The summative reflective assessment requires students to explore concepts and finding of themselves as applies to developing leadership skills. The essay will evaluate students' depth of learning, development apply leadership knowledge and reflective thinking regarding people culture and contemporary leadership.
Assessment Description
Concepts of contemporary leadership have been discussed through the trimester, this assessment aims to challenge your thinking into action. Ibarra (2015) argues "...thinking and introspection should follow action and experimentation-not vice versa. New experiences not only change how you think-your perspective on what is important and worth doing-but also change who you become." Students are required to reflect on activities, feedback and tasks completed during the trimester to discuss what you have discovered about your own leadership potential.
Considering Ibarra's perspective, leadership is about new experiences, how they drive action and change. MBA401 is more than learning the theory and concepts, but also the opportunity to experience different activities, strategies to collaborate and developing your own skills, therefore giving you a chance to grow and build confidence. This assessment task is a summative self-analysis to reflect and critically explore your own growth through noting self-observations in a journal during the trimester. Students will use their reflective journal to complete a reflective essay explaining how you can ‘act like a leader' and therefore increase your future employment opportunities. To do this will require you to support your assumptions by exploring theory and concepts we have covered over the trimester.
Assessment Instructions
Part A: A reflective journal template will be provided to support recording your reflections based on activities in weeks 4,6,10,11 and 12. The aim is to record your leadership growth and changes in behaviour and apply this to your own learnings from the concepts discussed throughout the trimester. The process will include reflecting on self-assessment activities, your own assessment work and feedback, engage in collaborative conversations, generate insights for further analysis and discussion to consider one's ability to act as a potential leader and their role as a follower in the collaboration session.
Part B: Students will use their journal to individually write a 1500-word reflective essay to show the depth of learning, development of knowledge and critical thinking skills regarding themselves and their potential in relation to people culture and contemporary leadership. Students will write a reflective essay that addresses the following prompts:
