Bob Martin & Co. was founded in 1892 by 25-year-old Robert Martin in the United Kingdom and 60 years ago entered the South African market (The Citizen, 2022). Since it was established, the family's love of animals has guided them to make affordable and high-quality pet healthcare available to all families. Therefore, many of their products are household names and are available online and in stores worldwide (Bob Martin & Co., 2023). Bringing health & longevity to all pets across Southern Africa is the brand's main purpose.

The range of products aims to restore or safeguard animals' well-being, prevent illness, and enhance performance. Bob Martin & Co. does not only produce Bob Martin- branded pet healthcare products, since the business is also a 'house of brands' (Bob Martin & Co., 2023). Over the years, it has added a variety of pet products and brands to its range, e.g. Pamper, Beeno, Lopis, Olympic Professional, Husky and Butch. Each brand has a different focus to be used by different pet owners.

Bob Martin, for example, is its flagship healthcare brand and helps pets live longer, healthier and happier lives, while the Beeno brand has provided top-quality, healthy, delicious treats for furry friends since 1978. Beeno offers a wide range of crunchy biscuits, tender biscuits, life stage biscuits, supreme biscuits, jumbo biscuits, semi- moist treats, and the deliciously soft and chewy mallows are available in a range of flavours (Bob Martin & Co., 2023).

Bob Martin & Co. also invented a conditioning powder and distributed it as a nutritional supplement to ensure that every dog could be kept in peak condition. This led to the creation of a new market sector, pet healthcare, and an iconic public persona for 'Bob Martin' (Bob Martin & Co., 2023).

To this day, after 60 years' of partnership in South Africa, the Martin family remains crazy about animals and is still passionate about animals and their healthcare (Bob Martin & Co., 2023).

Just like any other company, Bob Martin & Co. also has competitors and needs a competitive strategy to create a competitive advantage. Appraise the nine (9) drivers of the cost leadership strategy by providing two (2) examples Bob Martin & Co. can use to create a sustainable competitive advantage.
