Patients with these conditions are risk factors for stroke, seizures, and even death. This begs the question, "Then why are these companies allowed to operate if they are not FDA approved?" The answer is "MONEY!" According to PBS, the supplement industry is worth thirty billion dollars all from the sales of vitamins, herbal products, and weight loss pills (PBS, 2016). Supplement companies are given a set of guidelines from the FDA that they are expected to adhere to.
