Case Study: John Casey has worked for The Bike Company in the manufacturing plant for over 20 years. He has been a high performer on the team taking an unofficial leadership role when the manager was away or other team members were having difficulty with the newer manufacturing equipment. Recently, he was promoted Department Manager in his own department. He was the logical choice given his high level of technical expertise about the product and his understanding of the new equipment. However, John is concerned about how to help two team members who just can't seem to figure out the newer technology. He is registered to attend the HR workshop, Leadership for Supervisors, next week.

As a Department Manager, John reports to the Operations Manager, Ken. Ken has come to see you for advice regarding how to support John in his new role. Ken believes John has some natural leadership skills so wants to ensure he succeeds. Ken would like to give John some coaching around addressing the two struggling team members as soon as possible.
