1. Janie, a manager, indicated she heard that the ESA offered protections, to employers, related to reduced hours of work due to Covid-19. She has 10 employees who regularly work 40 hours per week and she plans to reduce all of their hours per week to 20 hours per week starting on April 15, 2021. Are there any protections for the employer under the ESA when this happens?
2. Kelly has worked for her employer, Walmart, for 8 years. She is terminated without cause. Must Walmart provide her with notice of termination? Explain.
3. Fern's foster daughter is ill. She has requested 38 weeks of paid leave to care for her. How does the Act apply?
4. Lori works as an administrator at a busy accounting firm. She has shared with her manager that she is experiencing domestic violence. How does the Act apply?
5. An employer informed the workers that the employer will be closing the factory and terminating 100 employees. Does the ESA require any special notice to be provided to these workers?
6. Susan works as a server. Her manager requested 50% of her tips to cover glass breakage. Will the Act help her keep her tips?
7. Jorge and Martin adopted a child 6 months ago. Jorge requested time off to spend with his child. How does the ESA apply?
8. Jocelyn works as a filing clerk and a receptionist for the same employer. This week she worked 8 hours as a filing clerk and 39 hours as a receptionist. In total, she worked 47 hours in the week. Is she entitled to overtime? At what rate of pay?
9. Caitlin made a complaint under the ESA. Her employer subsequently fired her. Does the ESA protect Caitlin, if so, how?
10. Jacee attends high school full-time and works part-time as a homeworker. According to the ESA, what is the minimum rate of pay that she can be paid?
