Read the article Diversity Fatigue
In this article, the author explains about how the diversity at workplace can be of lip service in public and how it can be differently received in private. He also explains how some of the human resource consultants worry about 'diversity fatigue'. He points out that diversity is a factual by-product of modern world. As a result of diversity women have entered workforce in huge numbers, mass immigration for businesses to thrive globally, gay men and women are not in closeted anymore. Companies that ignore the diversity, will end up with less talent and also loose their touch with customers. Some research's proved that companies with more female employees are more profitable. Even with all these great outcomes, why there in need of talk about diversity fatigue?. Reason one being the companies are not getting much return for their investment in diversity. Investing is not enough, their are lot of other aspects that needs to be well managed like how prepared are all the employees, trust between the employees especially in case of high risky creative projects and finally the culture of understanding things.
Dilemma: If this is so much hard work and resources to implement diversity, if a company cannot afford the tools - is there a choice for the company to ignore diversity. No, I think this is a must needed change for a company to grow and thrive in this modern world. Each company should take their time, build the basic ideology with in the company through various activities that are budget friendly and qualitative. We should not look at diversity as a new concept or development technique while adopting it. Its part of the society that we are living in, it has several categories starting from gender identity, cultural identity, ethnicity, age and race.
