Managing a Computing Project

Scenario

In this assignment you will choose a suitable computer related project. The computing related project could be a business computer solution, games development or software application development. Ideally you should work for a "live client" e.g. a local charity who wants a business solution which could be an advanced website.

Activity 1
Once you have agreed your computer science research topic with your tutor, produce a proposal for the research project which includes:
• an analysis of the methods that can be used to plan a computing project
• an explanation of the individual roles and responsibilities within a project team
• an explanation of how the project team will manage quality throughout the project
• an evaluation of the different project management tools and techniques which can be used throughout the project
• recommendation as to the project management tools and techniques which will be used
• a procedure outlining how risks and issues will be managed
• a plan of how the computing project will be implemented
• success criteria agreed with the client/tutor

Activity 2
Manage the computing project and come up with acommunication methods you intend to use to update them on progress.
You will need to keep evidence throughout the project with the use of an activity diary which shows:
• how you have followed a project plan to implement the computing project
• how you have managed risks and issues throughout the project
• the implementation of the communication methods to show regular progress updates with your tutor/client
• any changes you have made to the project plan to meet the computing project requirements

Activity 3
Produce an individual reflective report relating to the computing project. Produce a report which:
• discusses how the project plan was implemented
• reviews the project against the agreed success criteria
• recommends improvements to any future computing project
