Case Study: It was also called the Cold War due to the "chilly" or "cold" feelings between America and the U.S.S.R. This chilly mood can be traced back to the Russian Revolution of 1917. It also refers to how the Cold War never turned into a "hot war" with bombs going off as explosions. With the Bolsheviks taking power in Russia, many in the west were not happy about this new ideological system. As noted before, Winston Churchill spoke of the need to "strangle that infant Bolshevism in the cradle". To make the mood even chillier, during the Russian Civil War, Anti-Bolshevik White fighters included American, British, and French soldiers. So yes, the west attempted to stop this revolution in Russia, and ultimately it led to distrust and hostility between these western powers and the U.S.S.R. In it totality, the Cold War was a war of prestige between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R.

Question: Was the west justified in becoming involved in the revolution of the U.S.S.R., or was this a blatant violation of their sovereignty?
