Business Case Scenario
Sydney Media Group (SMG), one of the mainstream media productions of Australia, is printing based news agency who publish daily newspaper throughout Australia and broadcast news television channel. Ever since digital business media (e-news website) and mobile app video streaming has evolving and improving, many customers had switched from hard copy to e-news, television to mobile app video news. In the other hand, high cost of Printing and distribution of the paper-based news, maintain warehouse and other physical infrastructure has seriously affected in financial investment of SMG. In addition, advertisement agencies are also more interested in advertisement to digital platform which reduce in revenue of SMG.
As a part of strategic decision, SMG has decided to build website and mobile app from where they can reach to their audience digitally. Also, they have plan to replace existing server and data center (from where they were maintaining television broadcasting and storing database) to cloud platform. Similarly, they plan to build architecture for target marketing using data mining and visualization technique which will enhance marketing and advertisement of the organization.
Limitations of the Current System
- Unable to reach global audience as distribution of physical (paper based) newspaper globally is not possible.
- High cost on Printing and Distribution of the paper-based news, similarly, Operation & Maintenance of local server for data storing and video streaming are also not cost effective.
- As paper-based newspaper required warehouse and delivery means in different geographical location, it required huge number of human resources. Repair & maintenance of warehouse are hassle.
- The news cycle in paper-based newspaper is short life span, lack of selectivity to the reader and clutter.
- As it is complex to track the reader or viewer of paper-based and television streaming news, it is hard to target a specific audience.
- As a media company managing a datacenter is more technical, due to unscalable local server or it cost high for scalability, the system is slow and has other storage problem.
