Consider that the era we call the Enlightenment has been referred to as a "massive Western intellectual reorientation" that rested on two main concepts:
1) That it is possible to understand the universe through human faculties, and that human understanding of the universe and humans' place in it can be employed to make society more rational and humane.
2) In your initial discussion post (make your initial post only in the forum for your group):
I) Give at least two examples of how the authors' of the readings might have supported or challenged previous beliefs about God's relationship with humanity.
II) Give examples from at least two of your assigned readings that best demonstrate the Enlightenment principle of the human capacity to use reason, rather than superstition, to understand one's place in the universe.
III) Give examples from at least two of the readings that demonstrate humans employing reason to better society.
