Discussion:
Objective vs. Subjective Methods
Introduction Subjective and objective methods have clear pros and cons based on what outcomes the observer is desiring. The design of a study and its subjectivity or objectivity can directly influence the data that is collected. In this discussion, you will select a subjective or objective study to summarize and present to your classmates. Topic Based on the first letter of your last name, you will use the library to locate research articles on specific designs.
For example, if your last name is Smith, you will locate an article on a subjective research study. Last name (A-M)-objective design Last name (N-Z)-subjective design Instructions Based upon your last name, locate your assigned design (objective or subjective) Do not duplicate a classmate's article. Browse through your classmates'' initial posts before researching to help ensure you are not duplicating a previously chosen article. Using MyFSCJ, enter the Library and Learning Commons page. You will use the search engine to locate a relevant publication for your specified topic. Note: if you are having trouble finding an article to summarize, then use a search engine to find a relevant topic.
However, it must be a published article found in FSCJ's database. In the initial post, using the article provide the following information, using your own words: Define, in your own words, the type of study chosen Give a real-world example of the application of the type of study Summarize the abstract of the article or study you have chosen Clearly state how the article or study utilizes subjective or objective method Hypothesize why the researcher used this method vs. the alternate method Respond to your classmates using the following criteria: Respond to one classmate who was assigned your method. Respond to one classmate who was assigned the opposite method. Respond to a third classmate of either method.
Responses should be two to three paragraphs and contain the following: A constructive critique of the classmate''s post Fill in any gaps you feel the classmate had Pose or ask any questions that may not be answered by the initial poster or a subsequent classmate Format In response to each topic or prompt provided by the instructor please do the following: Provide a thoughtful and complete initial post that is two to three paragraphs (minimum of 400 words excluding references), by the middle of the module. Provide a two to three paragraph response (minimum 400 words excluding reference), to three or more classmates that directly address your thoughts on their post. In your post or response, reference either material in the book or an external source to support your point. Don't forget to cite your source. Please ensure that each response includes proper grammar and punctuation and is respectful in tone.
