Question: Chapter 1 had an abundant amount of information that explains the historical and cultural sexual differences throughout the world. Religion provided one of the first forms of sex education along with science and word of mouth. Sex education is now part of all media outlets. Almost all U.S. homes with children have television and a majority have computer access. This gives a lot of opportunity for children to receive information about sex or have sex portrayed or discussed in the way that they want to, referred to as framing theory. The chapter was very interesting when it discussed the differences in hormonal/instinctual sexual behavior in lower functioning species and sexual behavior controlled more by the brain in humans and higher functioning species.
Cultural differences like food, clothing, language is obvious when learning about others, but sexual behavior is hardly ever thought about. The way that other cultures date and look for a partner can be widely different, even here in the United States. Religion tends to play a large role in finding a partner and sexual behavior in the relationship before and after marriage.
Something I found very interesting was the Chinese government banning sexually explicit materials. It would be interesting to do more research on the effects of the government censorship and how that impacts the sexual behavior.
Social class, ethnicity, race, religion, and education impact one's sexual behavior. In the United States the higher educated a female is the more likely they are to use contraception and the more likely college graduates are to marry their first cohabitants.
