Think about previous coursework you have taken that deals with research methods. You learned about a wide range of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method study designs and the ways each study type can make meaningful contributions to the field. You also learned how specific sampling methods, measurement tools, and statistical analyses impact the conclusions that can or cannot be drawn from a given study.
As you prepare for your Capstone Project, you will need a detailed understanding of the strengths and limitations of existing research surrounding the potential professional practice gap that you intend to address. What kind of sampling methods did previous researchers use? Has your research question been addressed in a small population but never on a larger scale? Did previous research studies confound variables? A thorough, organized appraisal of other studies will provide evidence of the potential professional practice gap you have identified and will guide you as you develop your Capstone proposal.
In this Assignment, you will select three credible sources that discuss quality issues related to the potential professional practice you identified and three credible sources that discuss risk management issues. You will use an appraisal tool to methodically evaluate each of your six sources.
As part of your previous work, you developed and justified an organizational problem within your selected HSO. In addition, you searched the sources and identified a potential professional practice gap. Review each of these steps.
Identify six credible sources relating to your selected problem. Three of those sources should focus on quality issues within the problem, and three of the sources should focus on risk issues within the problem.
These sources will likely differ from those in your search, as you have new focus with your identified potential professional practice gap. In addition, since these sources surround a potential professional practice gap, they may not address all aspects of your HSO or review question.
Complete the appraisal tool for each of your six selected sources (three relating to quality and three relating to risk). You will use Appendix E for empirical sources and Appendix F for non-empirical sources. Ensure that you are using the correct form for each selected source.
You will complete a total of six appraisals.
