Assignment - Types of superstructure and superstructure design and Civil Engineering Technology

Task 1 Describe the predesign studies carried out and types of information collected for a given construction site.

Task 2 Explain the functional characteristics and design criteria for primary and secondary elements of a building substructure and Super-structure.

Task 3 Describe techniques used for remediating the site prior to construction commencing.

Task 4 Describe the types of substructures works carried out by Civil Engineer.

Task 5 Analyse how site conditions impact on the design of foundations.

Task 6 Illustrate how the component parts of an element allow it to fulfil its function

Task 7 Compare different types of structural frame used to carry the primary and secondary

Task 8 Prepare a design report identifying superstructure, substructure and civil engineering structures necessary for a given building construction project

Learning Outcome 1: Describe the different techniques used to construct a range of substructures and superstructures, including their function and design selection criteria

Learning Outcome 2: Identify the different types of civil engineering/infrastructure technology used in support of buildings

Assignment Brief

Scenario
You are working for a civil engineering contracting company and have been asked to provide an overview of the construction industry to the board of your organisation. Prepare a report on the construction industry, describing techniques used for remediating the site prior to commencing construction projects. In your report, you should provide a clear explanation of the terminologies used in the industry, types of project available in the industry, sustainability, design criteria, types of information used in the industry, construction methods and techniques, identify the types of substructure and superstructure for constructing the various elements of buildings. Also, your report should cover advice on issues of site investigation and soil remediation undertaken physically on sites to prior projects' design and actual construction on site in the industry.

Describe the predesign studies that are normally carried out, and the types of information that should be collected for a given construction site. You should use case study projects to enhance your report. Also, explain the functional characteristics and design criteria for primary and secondary elements of a building substructure and superstructure to the board. Illustrate your points with acceptable images, and ensure you apply the terminologies used in construction technology to your case study building construction project. In the same report, describe techniques used for remediating the site prior to commencing construction projects using appropriate terminologies. You must cite a case study with appropriate images to enhance your report. Also, describe the types of substructure works carried out by civil engineers using appropriate terminologies and case study images to buttress your points.

Using appropriate diagram and concise description in your report, illustrate how the component parts of an element allow it to fulfil its function. Also, analyse how site conditions could impact on the design of foundations for buildings. Furthermore, use appropriate case study project with images and terminology to communicate view to the board. In the same report, compare different types of structural frame used to carry the primary and secondary elements of the superstructure. Citing of relevant case study with appropriate images and use of construction terminology is critical to buttress your point to the board of directors of your organisation.

Finally, prepare a design report section identifying superstructure, substructure and civil engineering structures necessary for a given building construction project. This should be enhanced with appropriate images and construction terminology.
