Problem 1. How is child trafficking defined differently than human trafficking under the TVPA? What reasoning underlies this difference is language?

Problem 2. Discuss and compare the difference between child mobility, differences in social construction, and child trafficking.

Problem 3. Research child soldiering in two different geographic regions and summarize your findings to the class. Please include links to the resources supporting your information.

Problem 4. How should the problem of child soldiering be addressed? Should the local government be responsible? Research and explain why this is or is not an effective strategy. Should the United States or other countries and international organizations step in? What evidence exists to support this as an effective approach?

Problem 5. Think about the children working on the cocoa farms. Do all of the facts and conditions fulfill the definition of child trafficking under the TVPA? Why or why not? Analyze whether all of the elements of trafficking are satisfied in your analysis. Would it change your analysis if the cocoa farms had a school program or other job training programs where the children went to school half-days and worked half-days and weekends. Why or how does it change your analysis?

Problem 6. Our studies showed that many children came from neighboring countries to work on the cocoa farms. Recall your readings on security approaches to preventing and fighting human trafficking. Discuss and analyze whether the Human Security Approach or the Traditional Security Model could reduce use of child labor on the farms? Which model would be more effective and why?

Problem 7. What preventative or pro-active supports could be utilized to make child victims less susceptible to the types of trafficking we studied in this module?
