Case: Pete is a cashier at a local grocery store part-time while attending university. He has worked at the store for about 2 years, but was recently transferred to cash from the produce department where he previously stocked shelves. As a cashier, Pete has a new manager who is often very difficult to deal with. Pete is frequently yelled at by his boss in front of his coworkers for being too slow on the cash, having to call in too frequently for codes or not knowing how to void transactions. As Pete is relatively new to this position, he is still learning the system. Pete also gets last pick at preferred shift/break times and is asked more often than anyone else to assist with clean up and trash duty. One time, when the store needed to have extra cashiers working over the holidays (a shift that would pay double time), Pete's boss 'accidentally' left Pete off the email list for first-come-first serve requests to fill the shift. Pete spoke to some of his coworkers about the treatment he receives from the boss and they simply told him to 'let it go' and 'it's just because you are the new guy.'
