Assignment: Planning Marketing in Healthcare

A large not-for-profit South Florida based health clinic opted to develop its first strategic plan to guide the organization over the next 3-5 years. As a part of the planning process, the planning team conducted a SWOT analysis. The process was conducted with clinical staff, patients and representatives from the community.

The clinics location, reputation of the medical staff, its caring philosophy and willingness to accept all patients were seen as strengths. Weaknesses included overcrowded facilities, scheduling delays, no after hour services and limited medical specialists were seen as weaknesses.

Opportunities were seen as additional locations, extended hours, expanded clinical services and newer facilities. The stakeholders expressed concern that insured patients would seek care at other facilities as the population spread out to suburban areas. There was no concern regarding Medicaid and uninsured patients leaving the area. Losing their insured population was perceived as the clinics largest threat. The clinic is financially solvent with strong reserve funds.
