Lenny graduated from UNCW 2 years ago and has decided to expand his landscape/lawn care business. Lenny’s landscape currently has 40 residential accounts throughout New Hanover county. Tremendous growth is expected in Brunswick and Pender counties and he anticipates tripling his accounts to include both residential and commercial throughout all three counties. Lenny wonders how he should organize his business to be the most efficient. Lenny currently handles all sales. He has two mowers/landscapers, and one office manager. Assume Lenny is willing to hire several more employees to expand his business.
1. How should Lenny best organize the tasks among the employees? That is, who should do what? Be creative here. You can hire as many employees as you want but he has to make a profit, pay fair wages to his employees, maintain equipment, purchase fertilizer and chemicals for lawn maintenance, office work (billing, accounts receivable, etc.).
2. Draw an organization chart to indicate the reporting relationships (i.e., chain of command)?
3. Is your organization structure tall or flat?
4. Did you suggest a functional structure, divisional structure, geographical structure, or a combination?
