Case: Global brands are aware of the potential damage to their reputation that can be caused by failing to observe codes of practice regarding the use of child labour. For example, Nike and Gap both made major changes to their manufacturing practices to protect their global brands. Levi Strauss has been particularly proactive in negotiating action with its overseas suppliers, to place under-age children in education and not employing children under the age of 15. However, market pressure has meant that sales of Levi's casual wear have been in decline since the mid1990s. This has led to them cutting 1000s of jobs in America and Europe: but cutting costs to the bone (and cutting jobs) could arguably affect their brand image - they could be perceived to be exploiting their domestic workforce in Europe and the USA, whilst supporting the rights of their workforce overseas
