It has been known for some time that men with older brothers are more likely to be homo- sexual than men without older brothers. One explanation for this effect has been that this is a phenomenon of socialization related to the environment in which males are raised. Bogaert (2006) investigated this possibility by studying 944 people and looking at the num- ber of older brothers and sisters an individual had and whether those were biological sib- lings or step-siblings. With older biological brothers the probability of homosexuality increased from 3% to around 5%, but there was no similar increase with older stepbrothers or with biological sisters or stepsisters. How should Bogaert analyze these data?

A study of costs of electricity generation for a sample of 56 British firms in the 1946-1947 yielded the following long-run cost function: AVC = 1.24 +.0033Q + .0000029Q2 - .000046QZ - .026Z + .00018Z2 Where AVC = average variable cost (i.e., work..

a monopolist has marginal costs MC(Q)=2Q where Q is the total output (thus MC should be rewritten MC(q)=2(q1 + q2). The monopolis can sell the output on two seperate markets, which are protected from resale of goods.
Suppose the production manager is told to minimize the short-run total cost of producing Q units of output. While total output Q is exogenous, the manager can choose how much to produce at plant 1 (Q1) and at plant 2 (Q2), as long as Q1 + Q2 = Q.
