Case: Barney and Bessie started an ice cream shop together. They began as a hobby but as soon as they started getting over a hundred customers a day even during the winter, they started taking it much more seriously. Barney has been taking care of everything operational and Bessie has been working on the product creation. Since the beginning Barney has been doing more work than Bessie, he's been putting in more hours, doing more research about locations, deciding what kinds of customers to attract, and more. While Bessie was always invited to these discussions, she was not very good at taking initiative and overtime, and would only do work that Barney told her to do. Now, with a big investment coming in to expand to multiple ice cream shops in the region, Bessie and Barney need to decide the separation of equity, or who owns more of the company and who will take home more profit. Barney wants to speak with Bessie and explain why he thinks it should be 65% and 35%. However, between the two of them, Bessie has been insinuating that it will be 50% and 50%.
