Question: Africatown is a neighborhood in Mobile, Alabama that is steeped in history. Unfortunately, many in Mobile are concerned that because of its history, many property owners refuse to sell to developers but will not or cannot invest in their property in order to make required repairs and updates. How should a real estate developer or investor approach a neighborhood such as this? There is a shortage of available housing in this area, so renting or leasing would not be a problem. The issue for developers is acquiring the property.
