Question: Brenda is carrying out empirical work as part of a postgraduate thesis on attitudes to stress in the workplace. She is currently a full-time student though has considerable work experience, including at Company X which has agreed to be part of a survey. She has informally agreed objectives for the survey with her research supervisor and has designed a structured interview to be used with a sample of employees of the company, which is involved in the telephone selling of a range of products. The interviews will explore employee perceptions of the attitude of management to the support of the direct sales employees. This will be followed by interviews with selected managers. As part of a compulsory research methods module, Brenda was introduced to key concepts in management research ethics and the University's procedures for agreeing empirical work.
