In chapter of An Indigenous Peoples History of the United States by Roxanne dunbar ortiz the author notes that the reason why the US historical narrative of a natural westward movement persists is because the ideology of manifest destiny remains pervasive. She notes that the manifest destiny ideology "... normalizes the successive invasions and occupations of Indigenous nations and Mexico as not being colonialist or imperialist, rather simply ordained progress." Utilizing examples the author provides in this chapter (in at least a full two page response) explain how she counters this idea of "natural" westward movement.
