Assignment:

One of the important themes of this class has been how Rome changed in response to contact with other cultures. Using examples drawn from at least three of the four periods covered during the class (Early Rome, The Republic, The Principate, and Late Antiquity) describe how Rome responded to and changed because of the incorporation of other cultural groups in the ancient world. Did the ways that Rome embraced (or rejected) parts of other cultures change over time? What kinds of effects did those changes have?

The central claim is that "While Rome was initially open, it stopped being so, leading to its downfall." Provide specific examples during The Principate of it being accepting, but not so during Late Antiquity.
