DQ 1

According to Quick and Hall (2015) reading the literature in my field will assist me in a choosing a topic because the literature will help me decide which issues to address, become more aware of appropriate research methodologies, see how research on my topic fits into the broader framework, help me to not reinvent the wheel, help me avoidany well-known theoretical and methodological pitfalls and prepare me for approaching the critical review. I am not indicating that I will be critiquing experienced researchers work, but that I am looking at research only to allow me to critically think and have insight about my topic and the issues raised by previous research. The literature review is part of the research process. According to Abramson (2015) a good literature is ended by connecting all of the sections to your dissertation together. The connection is referred to as your contribution to your dissertation study that you hope to make. By connecting sections together, you will not repeat what has already been written within a chapter.

The work you are proposing to do is not literature until the results are published. My topic of interest will have to be guided by the principle of history, which reminded us that God's eternal commands were communicated in specific historical contexts. A text cannot mean what it never meant, so we sought to hear the Bible's words as the first readers would have. As we understood the original historical-grammatical context, we would understand the Word of God. Secondly my topic of interest will have to be guided by the principle of humility. This principle simply reminds us that, while God's Word is absolutely authoritative, my particular interpretation of it is not. We are fallible human beings, and we are wise to at least entertain the possibility that our understanding ofScripture might be wrong. We must allow for our minds to be changed if our study of the Bible leads us to a different place than where we started.

DQ 2

The literature review process is important in narrowing the focus of a dissertation topic. A major focus in the literature review process in the early stages of the dissertation is to identify a gap in literature. The gap identifies research that is needed in addition to the chosen topic. The gap in literature may completely change the topic or just adjust its direction. According to Hazel and Smith (2014), literature review helps the beginning researcher gather a solid background of the topic and creates a bridge for further research. In addition to identifying the gap in research, attention is payed to the influence of the types of methodologies. Each methodology is tailored to a certain type of research which greatly affects the outcome of the study. To better choose literature for the chosen topic, research questions present the basis for further investigation thus, expanding avenues for further study of the topic.

DQ 3

Hazel (2015) points out the selection of relevant literature begins by thoughtfully and critically choosing descriptors and keywords to use in searching for information on the overall field of interest. The researcher must determine whether the search keywords are to appear in the title, the abstract, or both. After choosing my topic, I will read abstracts of each article to determine whether the article is relevant to my topic, I will look at other dissertations on the topic and identify the sources the authors used in their research in order to construct my own literature review outline. I will also look at the reference lists in other research studies and dissertations on the topic, and for research studies that include the purpose, problem, research questions, sample, data collected, data analysis, and results. I will further look for recent peer review articles and seminal work (Hazel, 2015)

Regarding the methodology of the study, Randolph, (2009) points out that when a body of literature is primarily qualitative, or contains a mixture of quantitative and qualitative results, it may be necessary to conduct a qualitative review, either alone or as a complement to a quantitative review. For quantitative review, two common types of quantitative reviews are narrative reviews and meta-analytic reviews, which is commonly used. To determine what literature to use in my review, I may ask questions like, is the article relevant to my topic, does the article contain the key words I would use, or relevant methodology, and so forth.
